About
What people on Hacker News, LessWrong and MetaFilter keep telling each other to read, watch and listen to. A thing is here only if at least three different people mentioned it in at least three different months, each in their own words, and someone was actually recommending it.
That method is HackerTube's, by Andrej Karpathy, applied to everything rather than just videos. Its Claude-written labels of 39,834 Hacker News comments taught a small model here to tell a recommendation from a passing mention. Read one by one, about four in five from Hacker News hold up, and about two in three from LessWrong: expect the odd passing mention. Topics are filed by simple word lists, and they miss some.
Dates on articles and videos come from the page itself, or a date in its address or title. Where none does, the date is when someone first recommended it, written like “5+ years ago”, since it may be older.
Nothing is watching you: there are no accounts and no tracking scripts. What you save and write is stored on Cloudflare under a random number in a cookie, so only this browser can reach it, and clearing your cookies loses it. Comments remain the work of their authors, and each thing belongs to whoever made it. Pictures, articles and podcasts come through this site from where they live, videos play in their own embeds, and papers only from open copies or the Wayback Machine, drawn here into pages. Hacker News comes from the open-index/hacker-news archive (ODC-By 1.0), LessWrong from its public API, and MetaFilter from its public comment feeds. Nothing from LessWrong or MetaFilter trained the model. Not affiliated with any of them, Y Combinator or HackerTube.
